Usborne Books
Usborne publishing is a British direct-selling company founded in 1973 by Peter Usborne, a British publisher. The company currently runs its business with a single motivation- to acquaint the children with books and engage them in a way they don’t need to see the internet to find their answers.
Usborne publishes all of its books in simple and understandable literature in different countries around the world in over 136 languages through various publishers. The company takes pride in inclusivity and publishes carefully crafted books with exciting illustrations that children of all ages, ethnicities, races, and genders can enjoy equally.
So far, the company has published about 2000 educational titles for children relating to history, general encyclopedias, fiction, and some activity books. With over 20,000 independent consultants, 900+ employees, and about $139 million in annual revenue, Usborne is currently the biggest direct-selling business in the books publishing market.
Usborne is also one of the biggest advocates for promoting responsible business practices and looking after the employees. Usborne offers 10% more to employees over industry standards, apart from all the extra bonuses and allowances for those with young children.
This is one of the reasons why the company has about 93% employee retention rate, with an average service length of 9 years- more than anyone in the respective industry. Moreover, Usborne is deeply involved in charity work, giving a fraction of profits to those in need every year.
Usborne is primarily a Book publishing company that makes books for children. The company has an in-house team of writers, editors, and designers. The company sells through multiple channels that include other publishers as well as a force of direct sellers.
The books are further divided into multiple age groups to cater to the needs of all children, including 0-3, 3-5, 5-7, 7-11, 11-13, and 13+ years. Moreover, there are over 18 categories, ranging from baby books and activity books to fiction, language, geography, mental health, history, science, and technology, to anything in between.
Usborne also provides children with tools to unleash their creativity by giving free online templates to create their characters and write their own stories. There’s everything children need to develop their mental skills and overall character, in an engaging, fun, and gradual way, without exposure to irrelevant information.
Usborne Books's Compensatin Plan Type is Unilevel
In the unilevel plan, which is used by Usborne Books, all directly sponsored members who are recruited by the Usborne Books independent consultant are placed under him/her into a single business level. Additional levels are then created as those sponsored members build teams.
The uni-level compensation plan typically will payout on several levels below the consultant, depending on his/her rank.
For example, new Usborne Books consultants who are just starting out may only earn commission on the sales volume of their directly sponsored team members or level one. Once they achieve a higher career rank, they may earn commission on levels below their directly sponsored team members. Future rank advancements may include additional levels of commissions earned farther down their sponsor tree.
